Transforming My Laundry Room: A Sustainable Makeover with Style

Transforming My Laundry Room: A Sustainable Makeover with Style

Renovating a laundry room isn’t typically the most glamorous project, but I saw it as an opportunity to create something truly unique—something that reflected my personality, values, and a touch of Victoria Jane grandeur. With budget constraints from renovating the entire house, I decided to turn them into a positive, taking a sustainable approach and leaning on creativity to make this space both functional and fabulous.

Repurposing with Heart

The heart of this renovation was sustainability. Instead of buying new furniture, I repurposed pieces I’d had for over 20 years. These pieces hold memories and charm, and giving them a new life made the process even more rewarding. The furniture was stripped back, built in place, and finished with a fresh coat of paint.

To elevate the look, I added brushed brass handles, which gave the pieces a modern, luxurious feel while staying true to their original character.

We had to add one extra cupboard door so we managed to recreate the look of the furniture by adding beading to the cupboard front and a wooden motif.

Practicality Meets Elegance

Collaborating with Roma Tiling brought another layer of magic to the space. They crafted a stunning stone bench from 1200 x 600 porcelain tiles, which also extend to the splashback wall for a seamless, polished look. For our tall family, we customised the bench height to 945mm—a small adjustment that makes a big difference in day-to-day use.

The centrepiece is a striking stone sink with a 400mm diameter. It’s deep enough for soaking laundry but chic enough to make a statement. Paired with a polished brass tap featuring a practical pull-out shower spout, it’s both stylish and incredibly functional.

A Touch of Victoria Jane Grandeur

Of course, I couldn’t resist infusing some signature Victoria Jane flair! The wallpaper is one of my designs, blending current colour trends with a dash of elegance. We chose Birdcage Blush as a mural for the main wall, complemented by Blush Stripe on the two end walls for a balanced yet eye-catching contrast.

To keep the space crisp and clean, the ceiling and cabinets are painted Resene Black White. This subtle shade lets the wallpaper and brass details shine, tying everything together beautifully.

The Joy of Creating

What I love most about this project is how much fun it was to design and execute. Renovating an entire house can feel overwhelming, but focusing on this room reminded me that creativity can flourish within constraints. By mixing sustainability, practicality, and a little indulgence, I’ve turned a utilitarian space into one of my favourite rooms in the house.

Whether I’m doing laundry or just passing through, this room feels like a little slice of joy and inspiration—and proof that even the most functional spaces can be transformed into something extraordinary.

I would love to see what you think and how you would transform your home. ❤️
